Understanding the Difference Between Digital X-Rays and MRI Imaging at Pennsauken Diagnostic Center

At Pennsauken Diagnostic Center, we know that diagnostic imaging can play an important role in helping physicians better understand what may be happening inside the body. Depending on a patient’s symptoms, medical history, and the area being evaluated, different types of imaging may be recommended.

Two commonly used imaging services are digital X-rays and MRI scans. While both are valuable diagnostic tools, they are used for different reasons.

Digital X-rays are often used to evaluate bones, joints, and certain conditions involving the chest or abdomen. They can help physicians identify issues such as fractures, arthritis, infections, and other abnormalities. Because digital X-ray images are processed electronically, they allow for quick imaging and clear results.

MRI imaging uses magnetic fields and radio waves to create detailed images of soft tissue, organs, and other internal structures. MRI exams may be used to evaluate areas such as the brain, spine, muscles, ligaments, tendons, and internal organs. This type of imaging can help physicians see details that may not appear on a traditional X-ray.

We at Pennsuaken Diagnostic Center also offer Open MRI technology, which is designed to provide a more comfortable experience for patients who may feel anxious or claustrophobic in a traditional MRI setting. Open MRI can be especially helpful for pediatric, elderly, or claustrophobic patients, as well as those who may have difficulty with conventional MRI environments.

Another difference between digital X-rays and MRI exams is the length of the appointment. Digital X-rays are typically quick, while MRI scans may take longer because they capture more detailed images from multiple angles.

Both types of imaging serve an important purpose. The right exam depends on what your referring physician is looking to evaluate and which imaging method is best suited for your needs.

At Pennsauken Diagnostic Center, our goal is to provide accurate imaging services in a comfortable, patient-focused environment. We offer resources, appointment information, and preparation guidance to help make the process as smooth as possible from start to finish.
