Fall Sports Are Back: When That “Just a Sprain” Might Need a Closer Look

Fall sports season is here, bringing football, soccer, school athletics, recreational leagues, and plenty of opportunities to get back in the game. But with increased activity can also come injuries.

After a fall, collision, awkward landing, or sudden twist, it can be tempting to assume an injury is “just a sprain.” When pain, swelling, discomfort, or limited movement continues, however, your doctor may recommend diagnostic imaging to get a clearer picture of what is happening.

Why Your Doctor May Recommend an X-Ray

Digital X-rays are commonly used by healthcare practitioners when diagnosing injuries and can provide accurate diagnostic images that help physicians determine the next steps for care.

At Pennsauken Diagnostic Center, digital X-rays are performed using efficient digital radiography technology. Images are available almost immediately and can be easily shared with other healthcare practitioners when needed.

When an MRI May Be the Next Step

Some sports injuries may involve soft tissues that require a more detailed look. MRI, or Magnetic Resonance Imaging, is a non-invasive procedure that uses magnetic fields, radio waves, and computers to generate detailed images of soft tissues within the body.

Pennsauken Diagnostic Center offers Open MRI, providing an alternative to the narrow, closed-in experience of a traditional MRI. This can be especially helpful for younger athletes or anyone who feels nervous or uncomfortable about their imaging exam.

Don’t Ignore Pain That Continues

If pain, swelling, or limited movement continues after a fall sports injury, talk with your healthcare provider. When diagnostic imaging is recommended, getting clear, accurate images can help your physician better understand the injury and determine an appropriate treatment plan.

Pennsauken Diagnostic Center provides Open MRI and Digital X-Ray services for patients throughout Camden County, NJ, Cherry Hill, NJ, Marlton, NJ, Philadelphia, PA, and surrounding communities.

Located at 6027 S. Crescent Blvd. (Route 130 South), Pennsauken, NJ 08110, our team is committed to providing diagnostic excellence and compassionate care, with reports typically generated within 24–48 hours.
