State-of-the-Art Diagnostic Testing for a Herniated Disc at Pennsauken Diagnostic Center

A disc is a cushion (soft pad) positioned in between each vertebrae of the spine - acting like a shock absorber. There are 23 vertebral discs in the spinal column. Discs provide stability, flexibility and movement in the spine. However, certain factors - an injury, occupation, excess weight, disease, genetics or aging, may cause a disc to breakdown, lose strength and flexibility and rupture - resulting in a disc herniation. Symptoms associated with a disc herniation may include pain, numbness or weakness in the neck, shoulder, lower back, arm or leg.

If you are experiencing symptoms, please speak with your healthcare provider, who may recommend imaging tests. An MRI helps to diagnose a herniated disc - Disc Protrusion, Disc Extrusion or Disc Sequestration, and assists with a customized treatment program.

At Pennsauken Diagnostic Center we offer an Open MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) - a non-invasive procedure, utilizing magnetic fields, radio waves, and computers (not x-rays) to generate detailed images of soft tissues within the body. PDC’s Open MRI helps to reduce stress and provides a comfortable MRI experience - the perfect answer to those who are anxious, claustrophobic, suffer from post-traumatic stress syndrome, or for a pediatric, elderly, frail, or large habitus patient. One of our board-certified, fellowship trained radiologists will quickly provide referring physicians, healthcare providers and/or attorneys access to images and a Report, generally within 24 - 48 hours.
